As a parent, you are the most important voice in your child’s education. Texas law recognizes that students
do best when families are informed, involved, and respected. Parents are partners with educators,
administrators, and school boards of trustees in their children’s education. Parents have specific rights
outlined in the Texas Education Code including Chapter 26: Parental Rights and Responsibilities.

This form provides information about many of the parental rights and options described in the Texas
Education Code, including the right to refuse or remove your child from certain activities and instruction.
It is not a complete description of all parental rights. Parents should review this form along with their
district’s student handbook.

We are thrilled to share that Quitman ISD students and staff rose to the challenge with outstanding results on the redesigned 2025 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR)! The new accountability ratings show our district earned an overall B rating of 84, with the Elementary at 82, Junior High at 86, and High School at 88. Even more exciting, our campuses earned five distinctions across the district—a true celebration of hard work and dedication.

Quitman Elementary received distinctions in Postsecondary Readiness and Closing the Gaps. Quitman Junior High earned honors in Comparative Academic Growth and Closing the Gaps, while Quitman High School was recognized for Academic Achievement in Science.

In addition, our students outperformed the state and region in 14 out of 18 areas: Elementary in 3rd & 4th grade math and 4th grade reading; Junior High in math, reading, and social studies; and High School in English I & II, U.S. History, and Biology. These achievements highlight our students, staff, and families' incredible effort to work together for success.

Quitman ISD is proud to celebrate these accomplishments and looks forward to building on this momentum as we continue to grow.

In the 89th Texas Legislative Session, state lawmakers passed House Bill 1481, signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, prohibiting students from using personal digital communication devices during the entire school day, including instructional and non-instructional time, while on school property.

Personal digital communications devices that are prohibited for student use during the school day, as defined by the law, include:

• Cellphones
• Tablets
• Smartwatches
• Earbuds and headphones
• Paging devices
• Any other electronic device used to communicate with others

What does this mean for Quitman ISD?

When your child returns to school on August 13, use of these devices will be prohibited during class time, transitions, and lunch. This means students will be required to keep these devices securely stored in their backpacks or lockers and turned off during the school day.

I am pleased to share the attached procedures, expectations, and consequences pertaining to the new law with you. https://5il.co/3mb3c

Your collaboration is essential in upholding these important standards and ensuring that all parties are aligned. Together, we can foster a positive and lasting impact on student learning and enhance our school environment for the benefit of everyone. If you have questions or need clarification, please reach out to your child's campus principal. Thank you for your invaluable support.
