Earth Day Group shot

Thanks to "April Showers," Quitman Elementary School's Earth Day celebration was delayed this year. Yesterday, May 2nd, students were finally able to celebrate Earth Day. Representatives from Schneider Electric were on-hand to help celebrate the day, donating an oak tree to the school.

Schneider Electric representatives met with 5th graders and discussed the importance of protecting the environment and how trees contributed to the sustainability of our planet. Schneider Electric representatives also offered tips on how students could help the environment, and encouraged the students to explore their own ideas about how they can help out.

"Sustainability is an important lesson for everyone, and thanks to Schneider electric and this Earth Day Celebration, our students are learning how they can make a difference," said Rhonda Turner, Superintendent.

After the lively discussion on the "3 R's -- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle," students helped the representatives from Schneider Electric plant the oak tree. "We are thrilled to partner with Quitman ISD in their progressive initiative to bring sustainability awareness to students," said Tammy Fulop, Vice President, Schneider Electric.
