Rotary club Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Quitman recognized four QHS students at their weekly meeting on 10/14. Diego Osornio-Rios and Jazmin Rojas were named "Students of the Month" for the month of September. Brandon Jimenez and Sara Cross were selected as "Students of the Month" for October.

According to Counselor Julie Cole, all of these seniors were chosen for their leadership skills, their character and their involvement in extracurricular activities.

Diego Osornio-Rios recently earned academic honors from the College Board of National Recognition Programs. He was also recently named a "Commended Student" in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Osornio-Rios is active on the Cross Country team and will be going to regionals with the team on Monday, October 25th.

Jazmin Rojas also runs Cross Country. She is also extremely active in the marching band, and is the featured soloist on her clarinet during the ballad, "Aphrodite." She is especially proud of the band's recent performance earning straight "1's" (the highest rating possible) at the Mineola Marching Festival. She's looking forward to the Regional Marching competition next Tuesday in Mt. Pleasant.

Brandon Jimenez is another busy student, participating in Cross Country and Track. He'll be leading his Cross-Country team into Regionals on the 25th.  Jimenez was recently named Homecoming King. He also enjoys working out and team roping.

Sara Cross is a member of the Proud Blue Band and was recently named Homecoming Queen. She also serves as Student Council President and President of the National Honor Society. Miss Cross is also the Vice-President of the Key Club and a member of the yearbook staff.

Winners of the Rotary "Student of the Month" award will be eligible to apply for a scholarship from the Rotary Club closer to graduation. Congratulations to these outstanding seniors!
