Oral Readers From QES Fare Well at Recent Contest

Students from the 5th Grade at QES returned home with four of top five spots in Oral Reading at the UIL meet at Rains ISD on December 10th. Atlanta Watkins won first place with her interpretation of "How to Delay Your Bedtime" by Bruce Lansky. Madison Jones finished in second place with her rendition of "Sick" by Shel Silverstein. Wesley Irwin brought home fourth place honors with his interpretation of "Clearance" by Shel Silverstein. Rounding out the top five was Carly Plata with her rendition of "Another Note From Mom" by Diane Z. Shore.

Teacher/Coach Mrs. Ashley Day stated "The student, along with the coach, selects a poem that fits well with the student's personality and that they enjoy performing! We practice for several weeks perfecting the selection and adding expression, varying tone and inflection to make the poem come alive to the listener/judges. These students were so much fun to work with and always came to practice ready to work and give it 100%. I am so very proud of them. "
